Media Data Formats Project
- For this project we were asked to choice 3 images and reduce the colour in theses images with and with and without dithering.
- We were asked to demonstrate that pushing the compression ration further would produce poor results.
- We did this until we believe we have found the best settings for the image.
- We must also make a graph
The Third Image i picked is:
The reason i picked these images is because there is a great amount of colour in all three images!Image 1
In the first image i saw that as i made the colours less without dithering, the picture lost its quality. And by the end of the compression the image wasn't barely noticeable.
Here is what the new image looks like with only 2 colours and not dithered.

As you can see in the image above, the image is not recognisable. this is due to the fact that there is only 2 colours in it. Even when i Halved the amount of colours in the image, it was still not recognisable.

I then decided to try and dither the image. As i thought dithering made a huge difference. The image was still noticeable when it was dithered with 2 colors.
Here is the image Dithered with 2 colours.
as you can see, all the features are still noticeable with two colour dithering.
Image 2
In the second image i picked the result was pretty much the same as the first image when i reduced the colour. While not dithering, the image lost it quality yet again and when only has 2 colours, the image is extremely poor
Here is the image with 2 colours not dithered
As you can see it not nothing compared to the original.
However, when i reduced the colour while dithering, the quality of the image is surprisingly very much like the original. You are able to see what the original image is smilier to
Here is the second Image with 2 colours dithered:

The image with 32 colours non dithered is the last image before it starts becoming unnoticeable.
Here is the Image with 32 colours non dithered
As you can see the images quality is starting to fade.
Image3
In the third i repeated the method of reducing the amount of colours in the image.
i first started my reducing the image without dithering. By the end of this process, there was only 2 colours left and the image was black and white, but still clearly recognisable. You can still see all the features and detail in the pictures.
Here is the third image with reduced colour:
As you can see, compared to the other images with 2 colours not dithered, the image is clear and the best out of the the 3.
I next decided to reduce the image while dithering. while i was doing this, it was clear that the image was retaining all of its main features and details. and as a result the image is this almost prefect, just with less colour.
I noticed with 32 colours when not dithering the image seem to have lost more detail than the images with less colours. In the image a lot of the colours are clashing are it makes the image loss most of its details.
Here is the 32 coloured image :
As you can see the image above isn't the greatest
Conclusions
As a result of my findings, i come to the conclusion that dithering the images create better reduced image. i then decide to plot a graph with the size of the image again the amount of colours on it.
Here is my Graph:
The Graph shows that as the size of the image gets bigger, so does the amount of colours in the image.
